Why Camp Choconut?

Camp Choconut, a residential boy's camp located in Pennsylvania, is a relaxed, non-competitive camp where boys experience a summer full of adventure, fun, and challenge.  The camp is surrounded by nearly 1000 acres of unspoiled forests, fields, and clear streams.  The perfect outdoor education playground!  Activities center on building the whole boy through teaching community and outdoor living skills, respect for the environment and of our fellow man while fostering an appreciation for the great outdoors.

Time honored traditions and values that are embraced by Camp Choconut’s staff, campers, and parents have been a cornerstone for youth development since 1896.  Our philosophy is very simple; our priority is the Camp Choconut Boy - their health, safety, and growth. 

Our program is designed to help boys rise above their limitations and learn self-respect through a myriad of interesting Camp activities. Camp-craft is one such activity where boys of all ages learn the fundamentals of planning, making their packs, fire-building and safety, cooking, care of the equipment, tracking, and orientation with map and compass.  The half-mile long private lake is ideal for our aquatics program which feature swimming, canoeing, kayaking, fishing, and small-boat sailing, to name a few. 

We purposefully manage the camp size of Choconut making it easy to provide individual attention and organize big games for all the campers.  Many of these, like Pony Express, the Gold Rush, the Camp-wide Counselor Hunt, the Flour Bomb War and the biggest camp game of all, the 3-day/2-night Villa Hunt, have become legendary.  Other typical Camp activities such as archery, soccer, basketball, baseball, volleyball, ultimate Frisby, hiking, and much more are also a part of the program.  Activities are designed to include the young man’s personal interests and to keep him engaged, entertained and having the time of his life!

The mission of Camp Choconut is to promote the highest standards of creativity, responsibility, confidence, independence and reliance in one’s surroundings and abilities through the teaching of outdoor living skills and, to instill in young people an awareness of nature's important role in the enrichment of the human spirit.
