  • Description:

SEACAMP San Diego is a Marine Science camp for middle and high school students. SEACAMP I and II for is for students in 7th through 12th grades and SEACAMP III in both San Diego and Hawaii is for high school students only. Some programs may be done back-to-back for 6-day, 13-day or 21-day session.

SEACAMP San Diego is located in the San Diego Youth Aquatic Center which is on the waterfront in Mission Bay, San Diego, CA. Students are assured 24-hour supervision by staff members that spend the night in the dorm facilities. There is also a private beach area for students to use during supervised free time. SEACAMP San Diego’s lab facilities include a classroom with a running seawater system, a full aquarium room with touch tanks, and a shark tank with live specimens.

SEACAMP I is an excellent way to introduce students to the marine environment. Our instructors teach using a wide variety of live and preserved specimens that students are encouraged to handle and investigate. The topics of labs include invertebrates and fish adaptations to prepare students for the animals they will encounter during snorkeling. Students of all abilities have been very successful in mastering the skills of snorkeling through our progressive and well-supervised snorkeling program. The highlight of the SEACAMP I week is the trip to the Coronado Islands for snorkeling, marine life interaction and marine mammal watching. Students then have an opportunity to further improve their snorkeling skills on this all-day trip aboard a 65-foot charter boat. At the Coronado Islands the water is very clear and snorkeling is remarkable. During the trip to and from the islands, students frequently encounter whales and dolphins in their natural environment.

SEACAMP San Diego also takes advantage of the attractions that San Diego has to offer. Students will spend a full day at Sea World San Diego. The students learn more about sharks with a lab on shark ecology prior to an excursion to La Jolla Shores for a Shark Snorkel. During their stay students also get to boogie board, kayak, and seine as well as learn about water chemistry, plankton studies, physical oceanography.

SEACAMP II and III, for students that have previously attended, include more advanced academics as well as SCUBA and overnight excursions on a live-aboard dive boat to the lower Channel Islands!
