Summer Camp 4-week sessions offer a varied program for campers, with rich morning academics and exciting afternoon activities.
Being a ZOOMER is extra special at the Bucknall campus. Our Gr. 1-4 ZOOMERS will have an academic morning and will join our traditional camp activities in the afternoon. In the morning, campers will participate in thematic, project-based learning from 8:30-11:30 a.m. Classes are designed to enrich learning by providing experiences in math, language arts, social studies and science. Teachers will implement a variety of instructional methods including in-class lessons, hands-on activities, group projects, out-of-class experiences and special guests, all around a central theme.
Gr. 5-8 ZOOMERS will choose an area of academic interest and focus in on that subject for 10 full days. Classes are project-based and will meet from 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. each day to allow more concentration and focus on the particular subject. Teachers will implement a variety of instructional methods including in-class lessons, hands-on activities, group projects, field trips, out-of-class experiences and special guests.
Children who are eligible to enter kindergarten in the fall of 2009 (5 years old by Dec. 1) participate in a program designed especially for them at Harker Summer Camp (Day at Camp schedule). KinderCampers have their own classrooms and materials, playgrounds, field trips, theme days and activity program.
Academic mornings are filled with kindergarten readiness activities in language arts and math. Lessons are designed to include plenty of hands-on learning opportunities as the children explore math and language arts concepts.
